AI Isn’t Replacing Dietitians – It’s Making Us Better (Here’s How to Use It Today)
===
[00:00:00] There's a lot of buzz going around artificial intelligence right now, and a lot of confusion, especially for healthcare professionals like us registered dietitians. So let's clear it up. AI or artificial intelligence refers to tools that simulate human thinking. Think about writing, sorting, or summarizing information like data sets.
Chat, GPT, for example, generates content based on what you ask it, Think of it like a brainstorming partner that works 24 7. For dietitians like us, whether you work in solo or in a group practice, or maybe you're even selling digital programs, that personal assistant or brainstorming partner is incredibly valuable. So in today's episode, I'll walk you through how dietitians are already using AI responsibly to reduce busy work, strengthen client experiences, and scale [00:01:00] smarter all while staying HIPAA aware.
The first case includes drafting client resources faster. So I know you all put so much effort into client handouts. It's honestly one of the most common questions I get in coaching dietitians over the last seven plus years. So let's first talk about client facing resources, not just summaries, but it could be grocery lists or handouts after sessions.
So instead of writing one from scratch, AI can generate a solid draft in seconds that you can personalize. So AI is adding that structure and speed where you are adding the nuance. you don't wanna input protected health information, also called PHI, into public tools like chat, GPT for anything clinical or tied to patient identity.
You wanna use HIPAA compliant platforms only, like Heidi Health. We love Heidi Health if you're going to use it as a standalone tool. keep in mind that, some EMRs like practice, better. Does have ai built in if you use the add-on [00:02:00] feature. So they actually have AI where you can do chart notes inside of the software itself, which is really cool.
But not all EMRs have that right now. So if you're not using Practice better, if you're using something like Simple Practice, you can open up Heidi Health on the side and use Heidi Health as a HIPAA compliant, platform to chart your notes for you. And it's free and clinician specific and built for documenting workflows.
They even have a dietitian note that you can use and you can toggle between soap notes and other types if you want. then you can start standardizing your notes, but make sure to read them before you add them to your patient chart. Inside of the dietitian Boss Library, we do walk you through how to write safe emails, how to generate prompts, and even when you're using Heidi or other secure platforms, we show you how to protect your time and your client's privacy because that's really important when it comes to, practicing as a clinician.
The second case scenario I wanna talk about today is creating content without the burnout. So many of you are tired of creating content and a lot [00:03:00] of the reason might be. Because you're trying to reinvent the wheel or you're trying to make perfect content. And that's where AI comes because AI is a powerful tool for social media, blogs and emails.
So you can ask it, meaning the AI tool of choice like Jet GBT, to draft an Instagram caption outline. Outline a blog post, or summarize your podcast transcript for an email. So for example, you can say, write a short Instagram caption explaining what a low FODMAP lunches add a call to action to DM me the word bloat.
So if you're not already using that prompt or something similar for chat GBT, I want you to try it and let me know how it goes because it's going to save you time, right? And that eliminates that blank screen feeling. When you go to make content and you're just Ugh, is it over?
I still have to write the caption. I feel tired. You don't have to feel like that anymore when you're asking the right prompts to ai, and that's gonna help you post more consistently. All right, so inside of the library, that's our month to month membership. We do give you caption and blog templates, and we give you [00:04:00] repurposing prompts and tools to help you stay visible without spending all day on content.
So you can come use our tools, get the support we offer from coaching, and feel more confident about the content that you're creating. And because content doesn't include client identifiers, it's safe. To use AI without risk, right? Because you don't wanna be putting any client identifiers into your content for social media.
You don't wanna do that at all, right? You wanna only use AI for non-identifying information. So you've got a story, a client's story. Be really careful with how you use that in ai, if at all, because you wanna respect PHI. Another use case would be streamlining admin tasks. Now, this one is my favorite because admin is my least favorite thing to do.
Let me know if you can relate. So whether you're working solo or you're running a team, admin work can add up. Some of our clients spend anywhere from three to 12 hours a week on admin regardless of what business they run, right? if you are running a group practice, you might have more admin. even if you're selling digital products and doing brand work, you still have that admin, [00:05:00] the back and forth communication, the following up on invoices, et cetera, and AI can help lighten this load. for solo dietitians, you can draft onboarding emails or even improve the existing emails if you already have them using ai, and you can build follow-up reminder systems and create checklists or workflows.
For group practices, you can use AI to write SOPs at standard operating procedures. For new team members, you can standardize internal communication and build onboarding and training outlines. And one group leader of a private practice told me that she didn't expect AI to help with team planning, but it's completely changed how she leads her organization and how she runs tasks in her organization.
inside of the library we include prompt banks for admin tasks so you have a better idea of what to ask to speed up your processes. And these are editable onboarding forms and workflows and checklists that can turn AI drafts into repeatable systems in your business, right?
We wanna reduce that stress and burnout for you. So the takeaway [00:06:00] here is that artificial intelligence plus your experience equals a modern practice. You don't wanna stay behind of the curve. So the bottom line is that artificial intelligence is not replacing dietitians, it's helping us scale smarter, right?
You are gonna bring the nuance and the empathy and the critical thinking, and AI brings the speed and the structure. So you can use chat GPT, for example, to brainstorm or Heidi Health for HIPAA compliant notes. And you always wanna personalize before sharing and make sure you read what's been generated, if you're gonna add that to your electronic medical record system, right?
When used AI gives you more time, right? For what really matters, like coaching, like client care and business growth. For example, reviewing your metrics, looking at your financials, et cetera, inside the library, right?
