Done-for-You vs DIY: What New Dietitians Get Wrong About Growing Their Practice
===
[00:00:00] Trying to do it all yourself, the website, the posts, the emails, it might be exactly what's keeping you stuck. If you've ever thought, I'll just figure it out first, or you've Googled, do we need a business coach as a dietitian, then today's episode is just for you.
Today I am walking you through three of the most common mistakes new dietitians make when they try to DIY, everything. And how using done for you tools can actually help you grow faster with more ease and more confidence.
But what you're really spending is time and in business time has a lot of value. So let's take writing emails. A new business owner might spend weeks trying to create some welcome sequences, tweaking the tone and wondering what to say and overthinking every word. Meanwhile, someone else uses a plug and play template, customizes it slightly, and starts following up with [00:01:00] leads that week.
I wanna be clear, there's no shame in wanting to write things yourself, but if you're spending hours each week on things that could be streamlined, you're sacrificing momentum. So there's a better approach starting with a template and adjusting that template to your voice. And then hitting send and moving on.
It gives you space to focus on what actually grows in your business, like following up with potential clients or current clients, booking calls and leading excellent sessions and client experiences, and then going on to building and modifying and improving your programs. The second mistake I see is assuming that templates are generic.
A lot of dietitians tell me that they wanna sound original and They want their content to reflect who they are, and that's a great instinct. I will agree with that. But using templates doesn't make your voice less authentic. It gives you structure so your ideas are clear, [00:02:00] faster to produce.
And easier for your audience to understand. 'cause let's think about it. At the end of the day, sometimes we just have to get stuff done, and if you're putting something off and that something could be solved in a template, then it's probably a good idea to use a template. For example, when you follow a caption formula, like you're starting with a hook, you're sharing a relatable struggle, offering a solution, ending with a clear call to action,
You can still insert your unique story and your client wins and your tone, but the structure, it's gonna keep you on track, and that's what I mean by following some type of a template. It's really following structure so that your brain works less hard again, so you can focus on following up, building relationships, maintaining clients, and then building your group programs.
Inside of the library. That's my month to month membership. I show you how to take a caption template or offer outline and turn it into something that reflects your experience. The point isn't to [00:03:00] sound like everyone else, it's to stop spinning in circles every time you wanna write or post, or worse, taking five hours for something that could have been done in 30 minutes.
The third mistake, which is probably the most common, is waiting until you feel air quote ready. A huge block that I've seen over the years is thinking that you have to reach a certain level before you're allowed to use a system or even a tool, right? I'll wait until I have more clients to use an EMR or once I figure out my niche, then I'll set up my emails.
Or I'm not ready to use templates yet 'cause I don't know what to say. But here's the truth. You become ready by doing the thing. Usually the thing that you've been putting off, let's be honest, we can all relate 'cause we're human and that's what we do. So you don't get confident and then start.
You start, and that's how confidence builds. A good example would be posting on social media. If you're not doing it regularly, that's where you need to start and your confidence will build from that continuity. [00:04:00] And that's why inside the library, we provide everything from new client intake forms to a basic three session offer script.
And you don't need to build those out alone. And you can start with structure and then build on your skills. From that structure, every business owner benefits from making fewer decisions. In the beginning, you're already wearing a hundred hats, and this is the one area where you can choose to simplify and get results sooner.
Templates save time. But coaching is what helps you apply them in real life, and that's why inside of the library, that's my monthly membership. You don't just get files and downloads. You also get mock client case studies and case scenarios with different levels from 12 different specialties. Sales call simulations.
